2025 Medical Brigade
Who we are
​
UVic Global Brigades is a student-led group from the University of Victoria. We work alongside the international, non-profit organization, Global Brigades, to collaboratively work towards reducing global health and economic disparities. Our club has been active since 2008.
What we do
Our main goal is to organize groups of volunteers for our annual brigade trips that contribute to the sustainable development initiative of Global Brigades. These brigades typically occur during UVic’s February reading break. Through this experience, we aim for our volunteers to gain professional skills, a global perspective, a deeper understanding of culture, and to act as Global Citizens on our shared globe.
Our goal is to educate our members about international development, sustainability, and ethical volunteering.

Our group meets throughout the year to learn these topics, network with professionals, fundraise, as well as connect with our local community. We believe our impact extends beyond our international volunteer experiences to our local community here in Victoria, so our group runs monthly volunteer nights to engage with various local organizations.
During our regular meetings, we often have guest speakers from our members, partners, other UVic clubs, and professionals to share about broader topics and other initiatives happening in Victoria. See our sponsors page to learn about some of the key partnerships we have made.
What it means to be a member
Members attend our meetings to participate in education sessions, to engage with guest speaks, and to prepare for the brigades. Members help us to run regular fundraising events that contribute towards programming for each brigade (ex. medical supplies, capital for banks, and water sanitation units). Members also have the opportunity to volunteer with our group in our monthly volunteer night.

Our group is a community of students at UVic. Our members have the opportunity to network and to share resources with students in similar fields and with similar career aspirations. We bring together a group of like-minded students where connections and friendships are made. We hold regular social events to increase networking and to have a good time.
